Summary of news published since Week 17-2016
WITH its acquisition of Pacific Brands Ltd, major global underwear concern HanesBrands extends to the Asia Pacific region the near-dominance some of its brands already enjoy in the US and Europe. Because the company’s growth is based largely on the effectiveness and reliability of its multinational supply chain, there is every chance that it will achieve the objectives defined by its CEO as quoted here this week. This means that it will provide yet stronger competition for local innerwear brands wherever it operates, providing further evidence that success breeds on success. To face such competition, established national brands will need to conceive and implement marketing and merchandising strategies that are more innovative than ever before.
