jpa4Sibil220THE PREDICTION of a strong rise in sales of luxury innerwear brands imported into China marks the coming of age of that exceptionally promising market. Until a few years ago, any imported brand sold in China could be described as a luxury product, but today the Chinese demand for luxury is being met by genuinely high end imported brands. At the same time, some domestic brands have been repositioned upmarket and are also winning a share of luxury sales. As Chinese consumers continue to grow richer, despite the recent setbacks in the country’s economic growth, the trend in favour of more expensive products seems likely to strengthen. Initially, this probable evolution will benefit mainly those luxury brands that led the way into the Chinese markets but, as demand grows in line with the affluence of a growing upper middle economic class, even latecomers to the market could benefit. Consequently, there is still time for strong brands with global ambitions to consider expansion into China.
