LEADING UK distributor of lingerie Marks & Spencer pledged support for a new company, English Fine Cottons, that plans to revive cotton spinning in the UK. The new company has restored a cotton mill built in 1853 that stopped production a hundred years later. Now, after an investment of GBP 5.8m, the mill is starting up again, the first such operation to do so in more than 30 years. The revived mill aims to product both yarns and fabrics for customers ordering larger quantities. Later, it hopes to supply smaller customers and start-ups.

As a results of the eco trend in lingerie, some of the cotton fabric produced could find its way into the underwear sector.
