GERMANY: textile sector growth recorded in 2015

THE GERMAN textile and apparel industries raised their joint turnover by 1.9 per cent in 2015 according to a report from the national trade association. Although apparel manufacturers suffered a slight setback of 0.3 per cent, the technical textiles sector raised its sales by 3.4 per cent. Association President Ingeborg Neumann said that the industry’s major challenge in 2016 would be the cost of energy, which, as a result of environmental initiatives, is among the highest in the world.

The increasingly high-tech character of the intimate apparel industry, particularly as regards bra production, is likely to allow it to continue to prosper despite the higher energy costs.
