HANESBRANDS: US hosiery mill to be expanded

WITH the objective of repatriating to the US various production processes for pantyhose, HanesBrands is to invest some USD 1.5m in expanding its hosiery mill in Clarksville, Arkansas. The workforce is also to be increased from 450 to 579. Senior VP of Global Operations Javier Chacon said that the mill’s size, technical equipment and proximity to market, together with sinking energy costs, now allowed it to compete with production sourced offshore.

As costs in China continue to rise, and accessory supply chains elsewhere in Asia remain less than optimally efficient, it will become possible to consider repatriating production of garment types that are more labour intensive than hosiery.
