VICTORIA’S SECRET: swimwear to be dropped

ALTHOUGH it accounts for over 6 per cent of its sales, for a value of around USD 500m, swimwear is to be dropped from the assortment of Victoria’s Secret after the current season according to people close to the chain. It is believed that the space now allocated to swimwear could be more profitable if given over to active sportswear. Last year, analysts had estimated that the chain’s swimwear sales had the potential to grow into a USD 1bn business.

Following announcements in the past year by other bodywear chains, including Oysho and Calzedonia, that active sportswear would be brought into closer focus, this move by the iconic chain provides further evidence of the perceived growth potential of activewear.
