VISUAL ABUSE: magistrate disapproves of VPL

THE MAGISTRATE of a Jamaican court ordered a defendant to go home and change before facing charges because she wore a tight white skirt that over-emphasized the visible panty line(VPL) of her boy shorts. Magistrate Maxine Ellis commented: “She abusing me from front and when she turn around she assaulting me from back”.

The magistrate’s comment suggests that, in addition to being an aesthetic faux-pas, there are occasions when VPL can also constitute contempt of court.
