JAPANESE luxury lingerie brand Wacoal said that it planned to open 75 retail stores in India over the coming five years, representing an investment of nearly USD 3m. The brand is also to be sold on online platforms and through other multi-brand stores in India. Wacoal Director Yuzo Ide commented: “India has always been on our radar and the luxury retail sector in India especially in cities such as Mumbai, has been growing tremendously over the past decade.” The Indian launch of Wacoal is being made in collaboration with local partner Periwinkle Fashions.
This move provides yet another indication of the speed at which the Indian market for lingerie is evolving.
