AMERICAN EAGLE: natural images boost sales

 

US LINGERIE chain Aerie, which is operated by American Eagle and targets teen-agers and young women, reported that its sales mushroomed by 9 per cent in the last quarter, when it stopped airbrushing photos used for its advertising. A spokesperson for the chain said to the press: “…we left beauty marks, we left tattoos, what you see is really what you get with our campaign”.

The positive reaction of young consumers in the US reflects a global trend in favour of more natural and realistic advertisement images, with more brands using “real women” to model their lingerie and swimwear.
