SOPHIE HALLETTE: bid made for failed lace makers

THROUGH its parent company Groupe Holesco, Calais lace maker Sophie Hallette made a bid to acquire failed Leavers lace producers Desseilles Laces and Codentel. The bid follows the news that a Chinese group had written a letter of intent to take over the two companies. Sophie Hallette CEO Romain Lescroart confirmed that the bid involved an investment of EUR 1.7m that would serve to maintain in the Calais area the production and skilled labour force of the two firms.

It seems inconceivable that the responsible tribunal could give preference to the Chinese offer, which ensures that the two Leavers lace specialists can continue to produce in the Calais region.
